Legging Envy

I don't own a single pair of leggings!  To be honest, I didn't even wear leggings when they were in fashion the first time around, when I was in Jr. High School and still a stick.  But I love boots and I really like the combination of leggings + boots.  I think my intrigue with leggings is a deviation of my skinny jean obsession.  I like the casual, comfy vibe of black leggings with a slightly oversized cardigan or tunic.  Unfortunately, I am not convinced someone with hips and an arse can wear leggings successfully....

I did a Google search for good images of celebrities in leggings.  The results that popped up only reinforces my bias that this look is very tough to wear successfully.  It doesn't bode well for me when even the actresses with perfect bodies look dumpy in leggings.  Here the few photos that I was actually able to find that illustrate the look I wish I could recreate:

Any suggestions on how to wear leggings without looking like a toddler, like I am wearing maternity clothes,  or that make me look like a stuffed sausage?   I am searching for black legging type pants that are are thick and don't show every bulge and line.  Is this style simply reserved for the very thin and leggy?

  1. I think you can achieve the same look without actually wearing something that looks like you're wearing tights. You can tuck skinny jeans into boots and get the same great look. When I see women wearing leggings so tight that they look like they're wearing stockings/tights, it looks to me like they forgot to put on their pants that day. And it doesn't matter how skinny they are. It just looks weird. Maybe it's just me, but I'd prefer to wear tight jeans tucked into boots.

  2. i've found some great legging-like pants that had a bit more bulk that were officially called "skinny ponte pants" so that might be a good place to start your search. :)
